From 30 November 2023 to 12 January 2024, CFAlive hosts in Milan the Brussels-based gallery dépendance, which presents CAREFULLY UNPLANNED, a group show by artists Linder, Georgia Küng, Stefano Faoro, Michael Krebber, Laurent DuPont, Camilla Wills

A jest that was carefully planned and impresses us on first sight as carefully unplanned. The artists in Carefully Unplanned share a commitment to venture beyond the surface of reality, constructing a double that hovers between the tangible and the intangible— a ghostly presence that mirrors the fading contours of our understanding. Their different ways of mark-making transforms reality into a spectral echo. Whether through the meticulous application of paint, the repetition of texts and logos, or the manipulation of screen - print, they beckon us to peer behind the scenes. The marks become imprints of a journey into the unseen, leaving traces that echo a desire to uncover what dwells behind the facade of the everyday. The term carefully is used not to imply a methodical planning but rather to convey a meticulous consideration for the unplanned and unexpected.
Every box of Laurent Dupont received a new layer of acrylic paint, transforming it into something beyond mere cardboard. What now meets the eye is no longer a humble material but a replication of its own essence. His boxes exist as both duplicates and originals.
By using tentative gestural markings, Michael Krebber e x poses the conditions and conventions of painting. His abstractions appear to operate on the verge of oblivion, as they constantly substitute ciphers of doubt, delay, withdrawal, and hesitation for the medium's ancestral values of expression, plenitude, and presentences.
Stefano Faoro presents a series of recent paintings. The small canvases are painted with a double, unsystematic procedure, an applying and removing. The confusion between the two, and the impossibility of total osmosis among pigments, generate material instability: a hesitancy that the works attempt to maintain.
Georgia Küng makes her drawings by placing fabric over an object and meticulously applying graphite powder, allowing an impression to emerge . This ensures that the resulting image is 1:1 scale with the original object. Applying the graphite powder directionally mimics the way light particles fall on the surface of a shape. These conceptual pleasures connect to the origins of image making.
For her photomontages , Linder culls her materials from contemporary and vintage publications , large - scale calendars showing idyllic English gardens, as well as automobile, culinary, and fashion magazines. Cut and collaged, her juxtapositions recall a rich art history harking back to Hannah Hoch and the Dadaists
The divergent materials and thinking in the work of Camilla Wils are held by a practice of editing . She uses editing as a mask not to conceal but to amplify an inverted structure that sits beneath what is shown . For Wills, splitting, doubling and insight are interconnected. In Flanders Fields is made with pharmaceutical ink - industrial pigments for prescription stimulant and depressant tablets - that is silkscreened on paper

Linder (1954, UK) lives and works in London. She had solo exhibitions at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge; Nottingham Contemporary; Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; Tate St Ives, Cornwall; Chisenhale Gallery, London; and PS1, New York.
Laurent Dupont (1976, Belgium) lives and works in Brussels. His works have been featured in exhibitions at Plymouth Rock, Zurich; Kunstverein Nürnberg; Braunsfelder, Cologne; Galerie Meyer Kainer, Vienna; Etablissement d’En Face, Brussels and at WIELS, Brussels.
Camilla Wills (1985, UK) lives and works in London. Her works have been featured in exhibitions at Camden Arts Centre, London Kantine, Brussels; Haus am Waldsee, Berlin; Gaudel de Stampa, Paris; Chapter, New York; Kunsthal Aarhus; Palais de Tokyo, Paris and at the Bonner Kunstverein.
Stefano Faoro (1984, Italy) lives and works in Brussels. His works have been featured in exhibitions at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin; Kunstverein Nürnberg; Caravan, Oslo; FANTA, Milan; Club GAMeC prize, Bergamo and at WIELS, Brussels.
Michael Krebber (1954, Germany) lives and works in New York. Recent solo presentations include Fondazione Antonio Dalle Nogare, Bolzano; Museum Brandhorst, Munich; Kunsthalle Bern; Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Porto; Museum Ludwig, Cologne;; and CAPC Musée d’art Contemporain, Bordeaux.
Georgia Küng (1982, USA) lives and works in New York. She graduated from The Cooper Union in 2004,The Glasgow School of Art in 2012. She has shown her work at WIELS Brussels; Klemm’ s, Berlin and Bozar, Brussels.
